Romance Roundup: Olympic Hockey Players, Warrior Scotswomen, and Good Old-Fashioned Cowboys

This week’s Romance Roundup includes a couple that is working really hard to fight for their love, an Olympic hockey player who wants to show a figure skater a great time, and a woman who ditched her safe, boring life for something—and someone—far more exciting.

    Unraveled, by Helen Hardt
Ryan Steel and Ruby Lee have managed to stay in love despite some pretty incredible odds. (Seriously, you two, no one would have blamed you if you each decided to go your separate ways.) Still, they are both amazing people, and Ryan is every woman’s unique fantasy rolled up into one rippled, muscular mass. They are now finally in it for the home stretch—then two people from their respective pasts show up and threaten to ruin everything. (Ruby and Ryan, who do we have to scare away? Let us at them!) Ryan’s brothers are willing to do what they can to help, because that’s what awesome brothers do, but ultimately, it’s up to Ryan and Ruby to forge their own paths in life and in love. (We’re rooting for you two!) This is the ninth book in Hardt’s Steel Brothers Saga series. (Available in paperback, audiobook, and NOOK on February 13.)

Shot on Gold, by Jaci Burton
Professional hockey player Will Madigan is at the Winter Games for the second time in his career, and he’s pretty gosh darn excited. (So is America and the rest of the world, because Will can give the Shirtless Tongan a run for his baby oil!) He soon meets U.S. figure skater Amber Sloane. She’s competing for the third and final time, and so she’s really hoping to take home the gold. (Amber, when you have a chance, would you please share your top five tips for toned legs? Thanks!) Their chemistry is off the charts, but is their affair something that can go on beyond the Olympic Village? Will and Amber, when the competition is over, take the time off you both deserve and make sure to really get to know each other. And please, please be safe and take the time to remove your ice skates first! This is the latest book in Burton’s extensive Play-by-Play series. (Available in paperback and NOOK on February 13.)

    Arrogant Bastard, by Zara Cox
Our gal Faith used to be on a very different path in life. She was married and had motherhood on her mind. Oh, and she was also bored out of her skull. Then she met Killian Knight, who would make even the most prudish woman shed all of her inhibitions. Faith and Killian get involved in some pretty intense espionage, and that is precisely what makes their relationship so much fun. There’s also the fact that Killian possesses abs worth licking chocolate off of. (Or just licking in general. We’re not picky.) Can they manage to stay alive through all of the trouble? And when it’s over, will they realize that there’s far more to their relationship than they ever imagined? This is the fourth book in Cox’s Dark Desires series. (Available in paperback and NOOK on February 13.)

Any Day Now, by Robyn Carr
Sierra Jones needs to clear her head before she decides her next move in life. (Sierra, you take all the time you need!) She visits Sullivan’s Crossing, and stays at the home of her super nice brother and his super nice new wife. Things are going really well, until her past comes back to haunt her. Sierra’s not sure if she can handle these problems again (yes, you can!) so it helps that a super cute guy offers his emotional support. Oh, and he’s armed, as in, he has stunning biceps that are holding a heart-melting puppy. (Poof! We’re all pregnant!) A romantic story that features nice people, a beautiful setting, a good guy AND a cute canine? What more do we want in life?! This is the second book in Carr’s Sullivan’s Crossing series. (Available in paperback on February 20.)

Devil in Tartan, by Julia London
Lottie Livingstone and her clan are going to be homeless if they don’t come up with a scheme pronto. So they do what any Scotswoman—or Scotsman—would do: find a ship, load it up with illegal whisky, and try to turn a hefty profit. (Lottie, we admire your resourcefulness! Can we join the fun and drink some whisky while we’re at it? We’ll even bring our own Old Fashioned glass!) Our gal Lottie gets so good at this pillage and plunder-ish activity that she manages to capture a rival ship that holds the very panty-melting captain, Aulay Mackenzie. He has to watch, tied up no less, as she takes control of his ship. (Lottie, you have him tied up AND you take over his boat? Yeah, you’re pretty much our favorite heroine ever.) Here’s hoping they get over their differences soon, and that Lottie gets to untie Aulay’s binds AND his kilt! This is the fourth book in London’s Highland Grooms series. (Available in hardcover, paperback, audiobook, and NOOK on February 20.)

    Smooth-Talking Cowboy, by Maisey Yates
Olivia Logan is eager to win back her ex-boyfriend, so she recruits rancher Luke Hollister to give her a helping hand. (Good choice, Olivia! If any man knows how to use his hands, it’s Luke.) Funny thing is, Luke needs Olivia’s help, too. He wants her father to sell him some land, so this could really end up being a win-win situation for both of them. Then Luke and Olivia start to get the feels for each other—like, all of them—and pretty soon it’s hard to keep on pretending. Olivia, let that douchebag you dated go! And Luke, lay out a plushy blanket on a moonlit meadow and show Olivia why every woman needs a cowboy in her life! This book is part of Yates’ Gold Valley series. (Available in paperback and NOOK on February 20.)

Romance Roundup: Navy SEALs, Hot Cowboy Dads, and Miami Stylists

This week’s Romance Roundup includes a cowboy who is reunited with an old flame, a gourmet food truck owner who has to deal with a hot food inspector, and a hair and makeup styling guru who gets to collaborate with a muscular creative director.

More to Love, by Alison Bliss
Jessa Gibson is bringing her wonderful gourmet food truck business to Granite, Texas. (Jessa, would you please, please park one of your food trucks outside of our work buildings?) She’s got a teensy little problem, though, with the health inspector, Max Hager. He has the weirdest requirements, and overall doesn’t seem like the right fit for his chosen profession. It might have to do with the fact that he’s not actually a food inspector, but someone else in disguise. (That’s too bad, Max, because we all have been really naughty in the kitchen and are in need of some discipline.) Max starts to fall for Jessa and her killer curves, but he’s going to have to reveal the truth about himself sooner or later. (Max, it will be much easier on you—and humanity in general—if you reveal the truth with your shirt off.) Here’s hoping Jessa gives him a chance when he finally spills the proverbial beans to her about his real mission! This is the third book in Bliss’ A Perfect Fit series. (Available in paperback and NOOK on January 30.)

    Devil’s Cut, by J.R. Ward
Edward is facing some jail time, mainly because he might (but might not have!) murdered his father. (Okay, let’s all take a deep breath and exhale!) Edward doesn’t relish the thought of time in the slammer, and neither does Sutton Smythe. She’s the CEO of a competitor, so there’s a bit of a Romeo-Juliet thing going on there. As for Edward’s brother, Lane Baldwine, he does NOT believe that Edward killed anyone. Lane enlists the help of his one true love, Lizzie King, to help him solve this family-related mystery. Here’s hoping that Edward is not, in fact, guilty of murder, and that Lane and Lizzie figure out a solution that won’t result in any more deaths! This is the third book in Ward’s sexy, suspenseful Bourbon Kings series. (Certainly wouldn’t mind having a book OR a bottle!) (Available in paperback on January 30.)

Luckiest Cowboy of All, by Carolyn Brown
Once upon a time, Carlene Varner and Jace Dawson had “A Thing.” Then “A Thing” became “A Baby Girl,” which Jace “Never Knew About.” Now Carlene is back home in the small Texas town she grew up in, and she has to face her old flame. It all happens much faster than she planned, thanks to her house catching on fire and having to move in with Jace with their daughter in tow. (So sorry, Carlene! We’ll all pass by with some cooked meals!) Jace isn’t really up to the whole dad thing—or at least that’s what he thinks—but he’s soon pretty drawn to his daughter, and all of his old feelings for Carlene come back very quickly. Hang in there, Jace! You’re more man enough—and dad enough—than you give yourself credit for. So step up your game and show Carlene why she’ll want to stick around for good! This is the third book in Brown’s Happy, Texas series, and includes a second romance story—“Hometown Cowboy” by Sara Richardson. (Available in paperback and NOOK on January 30.)

    Final Siege, by Scarlett Cole
Former Navy SEAL Malachai “Mac” MacCarrick is keeping his muscles flexy and sexy by working for Eagle Securities. Then life puts him back in the path of investigative journalist Delaney Shapiro. They had the kind of relationship by which they’ve compared all of their other relationships. (Hint: Nothing ever came close, because they’re both pretty amazing people. Plus, Mac has the kind of body that deserves its own national anthem.) But Mac was involved in Delaney’s brother’s death awhile back, and that drove them apart. Now Mac is back, visiting Delaney in a hospital. She’s the target of a Russian arms dealer, and Mac is feeling all “Stay away from my woman!” Can they dodge the bad guys? Will Delaney receive her much-deserved Pulitzer? And then, can she and Mac have a little mountain vacation getaway that involves being nekkid at least 85 percent of the time? This is the second book in Cole’s Love Over Duty series. (Available in paperback and NOOK on January 30.)

    Unraveled, by Lauren Dane
Our gal Maybe Dolan—yep, that’s her name!—has the kind of life many a person dreams of. She cuts hair by day, and then she’s the drummer in a rock band by night. Oh, and the barbershop she works at is also a popular whiskey bar. (Maybe, let’s just say that you are CERTAINLY an inspiration to us all!) Then she meets Alexsei Petrov. No woman would ever feel the need for a sip of whiskey—or anything, really—before jumping into bed with him. He feels protective of Maybe—to be fair, it’s kind of his job to keep people safe, more on that later—but she’s an independent firecracker. Alexsei is going to have to work really hard if he wants to convince Maybe that he’s more than just a thrill in the sack. (Nothing wrong with that, but Maybe, please give Alexsei ALL of the chances to prove his worth to you!) This is the first book in Dane’s Whiskey Sharp series. (Available in paperback, audiobook, and NOOK on January 30.)

Her Unexpected Valentine, by Sherelle Green
Nicole LeBlanc has just landed a major, well-deserved break: She’s now the lead hair and makeup stylist for a Valentine’s Day commercial series that’s shooting in Hollywood. (Nicole, we’ll all be your personal assistants, and we promise to hustle!) She’s got this. She’s focused. She’s ready to show the world what she can do. She’s – holy tamale the creative director is hot! His name is Kendrick Burrstone, and let’s just say no woman would ever say “Burr” with such a hottie to keep her warm. Kendrick wants to keep things professional because he has been burned in the past, but he’s soon drawn to our irresistible gal. (Go for it, Kendrick! Nicole is awesome!) Things are just starting to become quite real for both of them, then Kendrick’s evil ex-girlfriend re-enters the picture. (Be gone, witch!) Hang in there, Nicole and Kendrick! If you can survive this, then you’ll definitely be able to weather the more normal storms of life together! This is the latest book in Green’s steamy Bare Sophistication series. (Available in paperback and NOOK.)
